"No, I agree," Svarik said quietly. "You can't just return to things how they wre before. He will have to make a lot of effort to mend the trust he has broken. But I hope he will see that, and do all he can. But now talking about it won't help much. If you wish, we can agree to not talk about it again on this journey."

" I would appreciate not to talk about it for a while. Thank you for understanding, sire. " vampire whispered, and then, he hesitantly nodded to him. " And.. If it means something... In all this mess, your grace means much to me. You seek to understand me, and you do not force me to do ill things in your name. Without you and ser Falcon, I don't know what I would be. I doubt I would be dead, yes, as former general would still be in power and I would be high respected army officer and all... " he tried to make a joke, and his lips were smiling but his voice was cracking slightly with pain, as he remembered his wife and child that left him. " But this is certainly an.... interesting place I would not predict myself to see when I was a kid, wondering what to be in life. It's certainly... more peculiar existence, than it would be without you... "

"I don't think anyone would imagine this as their future job," Svarik smiled slightly. "But it's already late. I must say I feel a bit awkward now, being the only one in this room needing sleep. So boring..."

" Well, somebody has to keep the fire going. Despite being an avid sleeper, I will sacrifice my own beauty sleep tonight to do that important task. " vampire said innocently, ignoring the subject as well. " Please, do lie down and rest sire. There is little point to this trip if it tires instead of refreshes you. I can go out for a while, if my presence makes it harder for you to fall asleep. Do you want me to go down and bring Yiska? Or should I only bring her when she wakes up? In case of her waking before you do, do you wish me to feed her with that one fruit Cernunnos had given her as he instructed, or would you rather have me wake you to do so? " demon asked shyly and gently, as Svarik didn't like to order him around, wanting to coax as much orders as he could through short conversation. "

"No, just stay here and take care of the fire, please," Svarik said. "I don't want it to look I don't trust Emil with Yiska. He will bring her here if she wakes and is unrestful. I will give her the fruit in the morning. But please take care of Sunshine if she wakes."

" Your wish is my command, sire. If you need anything, I will be here, at your service. " vampire nodded lightly, with gentle expresion, more openly loving each more they knew each other. He sat down closer by the fire, to be as inconspicuous as he can. Xia got it as a sign, and she theatrically removed pillow from Svarik's bed and sat down in its place, squealing a little and making place for him, inviting king to rest beside her like he used to since the day they met.

Svarik caressed her as he leaned on her side, finding calm in her company and the burning fire as something dangerous lurked outside in the dark.

They seemed to be safe there. Occasionally, in the distance, they would hear unsettling sounds, screams, whispers, howling, or, on contrary, a foreboding silence. But within their little lightened up room, protected by fire and nice scent of flowers in the air, nothing ill happened to them, and they were able to rest well that night, both Svarik and little Sunshine, who were sleeping, and the two demons that were not.

Svarik was alert for some time, but then he relaxed and fell asleep until the morning, when he woke before sunrise.

Yiska awoke a little time before king, and sensing that, Erdel went down to pick her up. She was still sleepy, and she was resting peacefully in demons' gentle arms, while he was feeding her some warm milk from the bottle.

Svarik got out of the bed and dressed quickly. "Good morning," he told Erdel, and watched him feeding Yiska, still marveling at the cute creature.

Forest God's blessing gesture still lingered within her, and creature seemed very peaceful and content, as if safe pleasant feeling he provided her enabled her to let go of the stress and tenseness, which was good both for her and her babies.
" Good morning, sire. Would you like to hold her? " demon asked his king gently, nodding lightly in acknowledgment of greeting. " Emil said we should wait for sunrise - and maybe even for a little bit after sunrise, to give Cernunnos enough time to gather his wits a bit after long night. It's hard to see from these barred windows, but sun has not risen yet.... " |

"Alright," Svarik nodded, and took out one of the three fruits so he could feed it to her after Erdel passed Yiska into his arms.

Little lovely creature was still a touch disoriented and faint after a long pleasant sleep and surely as pleasant dreams, and she ate slowly. However, more she ate, better she seemed to feel, and by the time she slowly finished whole fruit, she looked much more lively, and her aura was very bright and radiant, much more than before the nurturing meal.

Svarik made her comfortable in his lap after she ate the fruit and caressed her.

By the time she finished eating, the first rays of sunlight were already slowly spreading across the cold winter soil. At that moment, Erdel spoke up again.
" With your permission, sire, I would like to go to hunt now. " he said. " As I don't need breakfast, waiting for you when we are parting for a little bit would just delay me, sir. Emil said, though, that perhaps it would be best if you yourself waited with breakfast yet, if you can, until you go to other fort - because Cernunnos would probably try to make you something, so if you eat too much here it may sadden him if you're unable to eat meal he gives you. " |

"Yes, I wanted to have breakfast with him. I will just bring Sunshine and Yiska to Emil and wait until the sun gets a bit higher then. Good luck with the hunt."

" Thank you, sir. I really appreciate you allowing me to do this. " Vampire said warmly and sincerely to him. He looked still a little saddened after yesterday's events, but also encouraged by the fact that he could help Cernunnos by providing him with something he needs. " Do you want help with carrying Sunshine downstairs first, or are you and Xia fine on your own? "

"I will just carry the animals, but I would appreciate your help with carrying this," Svarik said, picking about half of their supplies that he wanted to take to Cernunnos. "We could also tell Emil that you are going for a hunt, I guess he will know best what to do with the meat when you return. I'm not really sure if they prepare it for Cernunnos somehow, or if he prefers to do it himself."

" They bring him fresh fruit every day and cook his meals whenever he allows, but Emil said Cernunnos enjoys cooking himself, when he's strong enough to do it. " vampire told him, as while going to retrieve Yiska, he spent some time talking with Emil and got to inquire a little better about things that interested him. " When I finish the hunt, should I bring the catch here, or should I go straight to Cernunnos, sire? I wish to give it to him, I wouldn't want him to feel like he was an afterthought, but, um, I am not sure how polite it would be of me to just bring still warm kill to his door... It's not exactly typical in the city, to bring someone meat when you come for a visit.... "vampire seemed a touch troubled and concerned, touch silly in his concern to follow manners he dind't understand. " Um, should I first wash it in river, or wrap it up or something? Or is just bringing it fine? He is like, a demon, so if he even hunted, I doubt some blood and couple fang marks on his meat would offend him... "

"That's what I want to ask Emil," Svarik said patiently. "He will know best." He took Yiska and Sunshine and gave the supplies and books they chose to leave here to Erdel. He invited Xia to follow them and went down to give Emil the animals and talk to him about Erdel's questions. |

When they went to leave animals, Emil seemed very pleased and grateful at vampire's offer, and, at the odds, his eyes teared up a little as well, as if he was touched by all this kindness and willing to help of pure strangers.
" Bring it to him, if you manage to catch something, kind guest. " he nodded to demon with some newfound respect for his effort and good will. " He rarely receives gift, and to see you toiled to bring him something special, it will bring him great joy, I am sure. " |

"Don't spend the whole day on the hunt though, if you don't catch anything," Svarik told him. "We will be expecting you around lunch, alright?" He then gave Emil food for the animals and instructions about feeding and caring for them.

" I will give my best to come on time, sr- Svarik. " vampire whispered king's name more shyly, not wanting to cal him sir and reveal his kingship before other priests.
" Please, do forgive me for being nosy, I just wish to make sure you are safe today - do you plan on staying one more night with us and leaving in the morning, or do you rather wish to continue your journey today? " Emil inquired with some worry. " If you stay tonight, I will be much more peaceful... But if you're in hurry to see more of the world, I may have words of advises that may help. It would be best if you left with as much sunlight as possible, at least two hours before the sundown, if you don't want to catch the chills, dear guests. Before you leave, I'd as well be relieved if you gave me a moment to prepare you some warm tea, to warm you in the night that will come. Being as far from the reach of the forest as early as it's possible would be best for you, sir. Another thing, that I would bid you heartily - whatever you do, do not fall asleep in this forest. Better more, if you can, you should fly to some place where there are people - houses and stable households means you are hopefully far enough that people had not fled and are not in danger. " |

"I think it would be better not having to rush, so if you wouldn't mind, we would stay for one more night, so we can leave tomorrow safely with enough of sunlight," Svarik said. |
