" I was very charmed as well. Bye till tomorrow, little prince. Tide smiled softly, and after bidding bye to others, he went to speak with Hans. As soon as he finished that talk, he went back to the library here Senecio and his diligent writing was.
Senecio just finished the last letter, meant for Tide. He hesitated for a moment, but then he gave it to the demon. "Could you please read it when I'm not there?" he asked.
"This is your room, so I am not going to chase you out of here just so I could read. " critter said fondly, while shyly taking the letter, not reading it as instructed yet, but glancing and checking it out carefully, like a shy kid trying to peek into a present box. " I must admit I would like to read it now, but...What would be most comfortable for you? Would you prefer I go to my room, read it, and then come back so we can talk about it, or would you prefer me read it tonight, while you sleep, perhaps? Whatever suits you more... I just don't want to make you embarrassed, so I shall do as you prefer... "
"I would like you to read it now, but I will be nervous while you do. I will just... read, or something, and pretend that there is no letter until you are finished with it, okay?"
" I could go to my room to read it shortly if you want, then, so you wouldn't be nervous, and you could take a little brake - you earned it. You can eat some snack while you wait, or you can, perhaps, water the violets. " he smiled shyly and lovably, reminding him on that gently.
" I won't, don't worry. I wish to read it properly, so I will take the time needed. " critter reassured him readily, and after gathering the pages of the letter, he went to his room, sat down at the table, and started reading patiently, with care paying attention to each word.
First there was the general part of the letter on separate papers, humbly apologizing for his actions and explaining how his mother died when he was young and how his father raised him with a sense of duty to his family to avenge them and renew their greateness, how he prepared him for all his life for a chance that might come, and then died in poverty before Senecio became a famous actor. He wrote how he owed it to his father to try it, even if there was just small chance for success, because if he didn't do it, the memory of his father would forever haunt him, but that he didn't really want to kill anyone and tried to come with a plan that wouldn't require it, even if other ways would be much easier and less dangerous to him.
Tide sought to understand, wanting to see into the heart of the man, that decided to pursue a bond with him. He read carefully, quietly, mindful of every word, and attentive to each shift and change in tone and handriting as ell, seeking to gain as complete picture as he can.
The handwriting got most confusing when Senecio was writing about his father. Sometimes it was a little shaky, sometimes very careful, as if hus feelings about that man were strong, but mixed - respect, fear, even some lingering guilt for failing him, when there was relief on the other side, of being finally free of him.
The creature noticed that and paid heed of it, for later. Then it continued reading, and it was rereading the letter for a while, thoughtful of it, giving himself time to let the impressions sink in.
Then there was the private part of the letter, beginning: "Dearest Tide, I do not know how I can apologize to you enough. I am very sorry for making you think that your nephew was a traitor. When I wore his face, I saw that you love him as your family, even when you thought he dishonored that family. I did not know anything like that. If I would dishonor my family - which l maybe did, l do not know anymore - while my father was still alive, he eould never have such mercy with me as you did when you thought l was Lorenzo. You even bound my hand, and I felt very ashamed for pretending to be someone whom you love as family, and I wished I could really be in Lorenzo's place..."
Tide was reading that segment carefully, as he still did not quite forget and forgive for that, and his heart desired explanation and apology still. That part of the letter, though, straight to the point and much more personal in tone, came of a little as a surprise to a demon. He was flustered at being described in such loving way, and seeing himself through actor's eyes. He felt sad to learn Senecio was so ashamed and he was thoughtful with dawning understanding of how little love and safety he experienced throughout his childhood, but demon couldn't help but be overcame with some butterflies as lad described how he wished to have been in Lorenzo's place, and he stopped reading for a moment, smiling a little and rubbing his hands in timid embarrassment, before he calmed a little bit, and continued reading.
"I am very sorry for deceiving you, Tide," the letter continued. "You saves my life when I almost fell from the roof, and I didn't even thank you. To telI thee truth, I did not think that it was worth saving back then. So allow me to thank you now, not only for saving it, but also for making it worth saving."
Tide was quiet for a while after the admission, trying to figure out how he feels about it - it did not feel right to him that Senecio deemed his own life so worthless and undeserving of saving, but he couldn't help but be touched by long overdue, but sincere thank you. He let his feelings flow, and let himself be both happy and sad, in healthy way to deal with his emotions, before, taking a deep breath, he went on.
"I regret how I behaved to you when you thought I was Lorenzo. I hope you can forgive me with time. I do not ask to be forgiven right away, because I don't deserve it for what I did," the letter ended.
Tide read over the letter for few more times, before he slowly and carefully folded it back, and put it attentively in one of his favorite poetry books on the shelves, to keep it as memory. He took a deep breath, to try to calm his thoughts, before he shyly knocked on door again to join Senecio anew.
Demon went in when invited. Like always before actor, he seemed a little shy, and he was watching him carefully.
" I expect... You would like us to speak about the letter, wouldn't you? " he inquired, as he tried to figure out how actor feels.
" I have many questions, but they are not about the letter, but about you. Those things can come in time, though. I shall be patient for right turns to ask them. " demon acknowledged simply. " As for the letter, though... Your thoughts have been heard and are valued. I am honored to have been given a glance at your mind. I guess I would like to exchange... a word or two, though... May we sit down? "
Creature sat down, and was quiet for a moment, as if trying to find words, to voice, how he felt.
" You said your father died in poverty, before you became famous. " he said quietly then, speaking slowly, as if to make sure each choice of wording is proper. " There is a gap, between his death, and growing famous enough to get by. How... did you survive, in that time? How did you live? "
" You did. " Tide nodded quietly, not seeming surprised by the statement, as he must had concluded it on his own, and that's why he felt he had to ask this. " If I could, perhaps... May I ask... How old were you? "
